Te Waananga tuaono

Whakaaroaro/ Reflections:
Although I am becoming more comfortable and confident in just having a go with different apps my biggest struggle is thinking outside the box about how I can use my new found knowledge to support teachers to teach digitally in a maori context? How I can use my newly acquired knowledge to provide meaningful teaching and learning to support staff?

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Today I learnt more about google sites. I am now creating my own personal site that I will use to offer digital learning activities and "how to" videos for our staff, tamariki and whanau. Ma te raweke ka ako. Having awesome support really does help to ease the transition.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
I love that we get DFI missions that push us to create and explore what we've learnt during our sessions. I am still learning and exploring and continuing to extend my knowledge thanks to the DFI team.

My fourth session of being professionally developed in the realm of GOOGLE

My learning and development for the day:

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I'm still contemplating how I can use the tools and experience I've gained to help tauira and staff.
How can I learn, create and share meaningful information and experiences to encourage others. Still further developing my brain and getting around everything but definitely loving the journey and especially our mirumiru.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

My kryptonite has been spreadsheets for a while now mainly because I feel like it is boring and I don't know how to use it. After todays session I am beginning to feel a little less uneasy about using it and seeing how beneficial it can be for all my note taking and recording. I have seen how it can be used and how effective it can be for my role so I'm happy I have some understanding now especially with the use of filters and arranging data in graphs and tables.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Today I learnt more about using google maps and possible ways this can be used with my students. I learnt how to time stamp and how to import data from a spreadsheet to a map to show locations. Makaore also explained how we could use this to map our marae and other areas with significant value to Maori which is great for students who aren't able to physically visit these places.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

In my personal life I have used how to make a digital pepeha that I can share with my whaanau and they can extend on. It's accessible from anywhere and anyone with the link is able to see it. This is great for whaanau overseas and just to have in the magic cloud that keeps everything forever.

I will also be creating some castifys on what I've learnt and what staff can use to teach tauira at home.

Wā whakaaroaro- Reflection Time

Ready to be professionally developed

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Ubiquitous- Learn
Empowered -Create
Connected- Share
Creativity focuses on the process of forming original ideas through explorations. Having experience working in the ECE sector and primary school I understand the difference in teaching in both educational settings and a quote that has really made me reflect in regards to both settings is

" In ECE you teach the child, in a school setting you teach the curriculum"

As hard as it was to change my teaching practices when moving between the two sectors it was also very necessary in order to be effective in an ECE setting. Now learning more about the pedagogy of Manaiakalani and I am pondering how I can use all this information to create better learning experiences for teachers so they can share with their students?

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

The use of youtube or tiriata- How can I use youtube to its full potential? I will start using playlists as a way to assist kaiako with the implementation of brain breaks and rauemi reo as extra resources they can use in their class. I will also start creating videos that can be beneficial for kaiako this will mean that instead of facilitating PLD I can identify what they did some modelling in and then create a video they can later refer to or they can watch the video and if they have questions or need further assistance than I can focus on target areas.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Teacher dashboard hot tips- You can create group and colour co-ordinate these. You are also able to choose

how much of that child's work that you would like to see eg. 1 piece of work and up to 25 items on the
dashboard. This will also help to monitor who is participating and finishing their learning and who needs
extra attention.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

A more in depth understanding of how to use google draw. A lot of the time I can't find pictures that relate to my slides or really just specific to what I am creating and now I am able to use google draw confidently to create my own pictures. I have played around with draw a bit and am excited to explore and practice my new skills.
